Preparing your materials and tools
Before you get the PVC conduit and start cutting and installing, make sure you have all the materials and tools on hand. Here are the things you'll want:
- PVC EMT elbows and fittings
- PVC cement
- Measuring tape
- PVC pipe cutter
- Screwdriver
- Electrical wires
Get everything together before the project. This way you can work faster and stop interruptions.
Precision cutting an d measuring of the conduit
How to cut and install P.V.C. conduit - -Start by measuring the length of P.V.C. you will need. Measure the distance between where you want to set the electrical devices with a ruler. When you have your measurement, mark the conduit pipe to the desired length with a pencil.
Then grab your pvc conduit pipe and fit it to the mark you drew on your conduit pipe. Slowly turn the cutter around the pipe while putting pressure on it. Continue rotating the cutter until the pipe is severed and installing the conduit with tight fittings.
Now that the PVC conduit is cut to the correct length, it’s time to install it. Begin by dry-fitting the conduit together to ensure everything fits as it should. Cut off the excess length with PVC cutters if required.
When the conduit sections are a push fit, solvent cement is used to bond the pipe ends and the fittings. Press the so quickly into place and hold it for a few seconds to set the cement. Just be sure to follow the PVC cement label instructions as recommended by the manufacturer.
Keeping the conduit stable for safety
Secure fittings and attachments help keep your PVC conduit in place. Install the conduit clamps onto the wall, or ceiling, with screws and a screwdriver. Insert the conduit into the clamps and secure with the clamps to keep the conduit firmly in place.
Also can use PVC straps to fasten the conduit to any surface it is gutting along. This will help keep the conduit from bouncing around or swaying, which is no good for the electrical wires inside.
Checking the power connections for testing purposes
When you have cut and placed the PVC conduit, it would be excellent to check your electrical installations to ensure the entire system is functioning well. Follow instructions in install manual and connect wiring to outlets or light fixtures. Power on and check each outlet or fixture to make sure it works properly.
If you are experiencing a problem, re-examine your connections and ensure the PVC conduit is tight and intact. Safety comes first, of course, and when it comes to playing with live wires, there’s just no room to take chances, so take your time and double check everything until you’re good and ready to use your new outlets or fixtures.
